04/20/2004: "The new paints kick ass!"
This is a painting I started awhile back, but worked on a lot last night with the new paints. I can't tell you enough how the higher quality paints make a difference. This photo stinks but in person, the painting's colors are so much more intense than stuff I've done in the past. I'm also considering changing how I work, instead of using paint to build up a painterly surface on the canvas, I'm going to try using a painting mudium, perhaps modeling paste, on masonite. Then, use the more expensive paints for uper layer glazing so I don't have to use as much of the actual pigment. The first one is a photo of the painting before I started working on it last night. I'll have to borrow a proper digital camera from school so I can take a better picture of how it looks now as this image doesn't really do it justice.
This painting is of a woman sitting on Douglas Island with the city of Juneau behind her. The big green things are exaggerated fiddlehead ferns, which will be making an appearance any day now.
