05/02/2004: "Graduation Day/10.5"
I went to the graduation ceremony for UAS despite my back problem. I had to walk up with the faculty, all dressed in my silly gown and cap, carrying a pillow to put on my chair for my back. It was humiliating but I'm used to being humiliated so it doesn't bother me too much anymore.
Right now I'm watching 10.5 which I've been looking forward to all week. I love disaster movies almost as much as postapocalypic ones. The only thing is that Douglas Island runs right along the Denali Fault. Ironically, we don't have many quakes here, of course, that could be a bad thing if it's just building up strain for a big one.
When I lived in Anchorage there were earthquakes all the time, some of them very strong. They were scary when they were happening but also kind of exciting. Now my sister and her husband live in Anchorage and I worry about them if there was another big earthquake in Alaska.
You know, I'm so nuerotic that I probably shouldn't watch shows like this but I just can't help myself. Tomorrow I think I'm going to go and buy some earthquake insurance as I currently am not insured for quake damage. At least I don't have to worry about tornados anymore.
One other thing, in the past couple of weeks my blog has started to get a lot of spam entries relating to casinos and gambling. At first they kept getting added to one particular entry in my archives so after a week of deleting them everyday, I finally just closed the entry to new comments, then they started showing up in another comment, which I also closed. Now I'm getting them in current postings. I use greymatter for my blog, any suggestions on how to get rid of automated blog and guestbook spamming? I've seen some blogs/guestbooks where you have to write down the numbers and letters you see before you can leave a comment but I don't know how to set anything like that up. Could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks
E
