09/20/2004: "Nipplephobia"

Last night I was channel surfing (something I rarely do now that I have a TIVO) and I came across the the movie Titanic playing on NBC (I think). It was right at the scene where DiCaprio is showing Winslet his drawings, right before she poses for him. Here's the hilarious part, one drawing was of a nude woman lying on a couch and they blurred out the nipples on the *drawing* (and only showed it from the waist up).

Then, I was ego surfing (I like to see who's linking to me) and I found one guy had who had written this about checking out my galleries (warning: Not Safe For Work. If you are at work it wouldn't be wise to view some of her artwork on a company computer. Your employer might not be so openminded about such things as you are). Now, he did say some complimentary stuff and that's cool, and I can sortof understand what he's talking about...It just reminds me of that whole incident I had with my web server who was going to cancel my account if I registered "colorful nudes" and asked me to put a warning to minors on my site. geesh.

Oh yah, there's also a new link to my Hedwig paintings on a website called Deviant Art (which I kindof like).

Are other people as interested as I am in who is linking to you?

I am pretty sure that anyone who has a personal website or blog border on obsessiveness when it comes to finding out who visits their site. It's par for the course.

That was me, by the way, who linked to your site.

Hi Markus!
I'm not sure if you read my blog back when I had the big drag down knock out fight with my web hosting service who wanted me to post warnings on my website because of its content. I guess I still have a bit of raw nerve over that. As an artist, I see the body more from a design standpoint; shapes and colors. It's weird to think that my work might be considered “offensive”, because I don't see it as being sexual at all… but as you said, it’s the closed mindedness of others we may have to watch out for.

Anyway, I'm also a political junkie...although I think we may be on different sides of the good fight. I'm a volunteer on the Tony Knowles' graphic artist team. I just finished designing one flyer/invitation for a Cajun gumbo feed fundraiser and I've started working on another, for a chocolate party in Fairbanks.

Following politics is one of the most entertaining things I can think of! (besides painting boobies LOL)

I can understand how you would feel if someone were to so cavalierly dismiss your work as offensive. When a company is involved, it usually isn't personal. A company's policy can be quite rigid when dealing with subjects such as art.

Well, Tony Knowles is obviously lucky to have you working for his campaign. Your talent is definitely an asset.

Oh, and, don't be afraid to stop by my site every now and again. You can always correct me or give me a good scathing rebuttal if I am out of line any. :-)

Oh goody! Scathing rebuttals are my personal specialty.
