12/05/2004: "12 Hours Later"

Man oh man, did I have the sleep of my life! I was able to keep my eyes open until 10:30pm last night, then slept straight through until 10:30 this morning. Unbelieveable. This afternoon Jen came over, she and I were going to go next door to the Douglas Cafe for lunch but found out they were already closed so I fixed waffles for us instead. It was pretty cool, she stayed over and hung out and I kept having little panic attacks where I'd think "Oh my god, I need to get back to painting" but then I'd realize that I didn't have to...it was so wonderful. Like waking up late for work only to realize that it's Saturday.

Then my friend Karen came by and paid me the rest of the money she owed on a painting she bought Friday night (in cash, very cool) she's also the dean of the department of Business and Career Ed and convinced me I should take a class this Spring in Small Buisness Development or Marketing. What an excellent idea! I couldn't believe that I hadn't thought of that before. So, I think I'll start with the marketing class. I need to get better at the business end of my business and since tuition for me is free, I might as well make use of it. I can always just audit it if it's too much work.

Anyway, later Jen and I went to see the new Bridget Jones movie. It was pretty good but then, my expectations weren't very high. It was still fun to get out and see a movie, I haven't done anything but paint for so long I forget what it's like to see people and do normal things.

Now, I'm finishing up a commission that has been giving me trouble and taking too long. I promised to have it finished and in the mail before I leave for Nebraska for the holidays.

Oh yah, and I went to that workshop on Sat. afternoon showing how to make artist trading cards, it was *really* good and I was so excited and inspired by it. I've made several already, so if anyone wants to know more about it they can read the entry I made, November 22, or email me if you want to trade, or, just send me one with your mailing address and I'll send one to you. My mailing address is 309 D Street, Douglas Alaska 99824. I plan to scan them and post them to a page on this website so you could actually pick which one you wanted. I'm going to wait until they're all finished though, I have several only partially completed. I'll keep you posted.

So, next big deadline for me is Friday, April 1. My next solo that will be at the Friendly Planet. I've decided to order gesso primed panel for this one. I'm placing a big order with Dick Blick now that I have some $$$ from sales. Also, I'm using my 50% of sales reserved for big purchases, to buy a real digital camera (goodby Blink II) I've decided on Sony's Mavica CD500 digital still camera. I really need one and I'm tired of always having to borrow one from the University.

Couldn't get into your link for Mavica CD500 Elise but found it anyway - that's one cool camera!! Listen to you preparing for the next exhibition when the paint on the last one is barely dry. :hehe: You are a true artist. Well done - but you realise when you say you can't do it this time, we'll all remind you you said that the last time and won't believe you. Go for it.

hmmm, it opens for me, not sure why it wouldn't work for you. These cameras are great! They are the type that our university purchases for students to check out so I've been using them for a long time now and they take really good photos. All the photos I've ever posted on my blog was taken with either a CD500 or a CD350.

And hopefully I won't be as nuerotic next time. I plan to get started earlier for this show, right away actually. But if I do need to freak out a little, it will be nice to know there's someone there to talk me down a little ;)
