02/04/2006: "Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful"

It's kind of nice to commiserate with someone who's down and out a lot, especially if you're getting a bit of a titi twister from fate yourself...I know I complain a lot...bad health, crap or non-existent art, loneliness, taku winds, endless darkness and rain...not to mention constant reminders of how our entire planet is circling the drain. Sometimes even I hate being around myself.

But not today. Today I woke up to sun shining on my face. Today I met friends (and potentially new friends) for brunch and saw an excellent movie (Brokeback Mountain). Today I ate organic veggie stew, had a kick-ass glass of wine, and a bubble bath that was exactly the right temperature (which left my skin feeling as smooth as a baby's ass). Then tonight my sister called and made me laugh...meanwhile, a song came on that seemed to sum up exactly how I've been feeling. I looked it up in Chordie and not only do they have it, but a version with all open chords that's exceedingly easy to play; playing and singing along makes me smile deep in me guttywad.

I've always had an obsession with making mixed tapes. Well, mixed "tapes", then CDs and now playlists in Napster. My latest have titles like "sad" and "pissed off and crazy" etc. so I decided to make one called "happy" and this song is the first one I added. It reminds me that you need depression (For those of you who want to commiserate, fear not, it will be back) to know what true happiness is; maybe people who live in Hawaii don't spend 10 minutes crying with joy when they see a small patch of blue sky (for example). Life is full of dichotomies which really is what makes it so wonderful.

It takes a crane to build a crane
It takes two floors to make a story
It takes an egg to make a hen
It takes a hen to make an egg
There is no end to what I'm saying

It takes a thought to make a word
And it takes some words to make an action
It takes some work to make it work
It takes some good to make it hurt
It takes some bad for satisfaction

La la la la la la la life is wonderful
Ah la la la la la la life goes full circle
Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful
Al la la la la

It takes a night to make it dawn
And it takes a day to you yawn brother
It takes some old to make you young
It takes some cold to know the sun
It takes the one to have the other

It takes no time to fall in love
But it takes you years to know what love is
It takes some fears to make you trust
It takes those tears to make it rust
It takes the dust to make it polished

(chorus)

It takes some silence to make sound
It takes a loss before you found it
It takes a road to go nowhere
It takes a toll to make you care
It takes a hole to make a mountain

(chorus)

it is wonderful
it goes full circle
it is meaningful
it is wonderful
it makes you full

And as Lous Armnstrong said - it's a wonderful world....
Good mood is a great thing, isn' it? And the song is absolutely fantastic - I wish I knew the melody.... :D

Hi Kasia, if you haven't heard the song before, it's buy a young musician named Jason Mraz.

I love the melody, it starts very simple, just a voice and acoustic guitar, but with every stanza more and more instruments join in to accompany him.

And it is true isn't Marja-leena?

jason mraz can sing about heartache and love gone bad and still sound hopeful and not bitter. you should check out his coffee-house cds, which are awesome, and even his first commercial cd, "waiting for my rocket to come." it took a while for some of the songs to grow on me, but they did. if he's ever in your neck of the woods, you must see his live show to know that he's the real deal--humble, smart, and very funny.

I agree dgm, I've listened to some of his other music and I like it a lot...though I highly doubt he'll ever be "in my kneck of the woods".

Glad you are feeling so good! For me, I think seeing the sun (actually shining in Juneau) had a lot to do with that. Yay, sun!

Yah Sun indeed! :D

hey girl, i'm glad yuuur so happy :) but isn't funny that on nearly every blog in the world (gross general generalization, yaya) yours included, one gets WWAAAAYYYYYY more feedback whence a complaining upset confused post is had?? hehe.

Hey Subi, I hadn't thought about that but you're probably right. Maybe because people like to comfort and give advice because we've all been down before and a little "there there, it's all going to be alright" is really comforting...but when you're happy and things are going well, there isn't as much to say except...hey, good for you. ya know?

Also, sometimes when things are going well I feel like I'm bragging or something, which I'm not at all. I just feel I share the misery so much, nice to temper it with some glee. lord knows I don't feel glee enough to squander any of it.
;)
btw, I got photos from sean a couple days ago (don't worry Seany, I still lick you plenty!) if you're interested I'll email a couple your way.

I had the same thought about fiona! She is such a beauty and getting to be so big! I liked the look of those photos too, kind of black and white and old looking.

I'd love to see more photos of your kleinter (great word btw)...let me know when.
