03/14/2006: "Mama told me there'd be days like this..."

Today I had lunch with the author of Alaska Roadside Geology to discuss the cover art. It’s a popular title that will be carried by pretty much all of the book stores in Alaska and Yukon Territory so I don’t want to half-ass it; I’d like it to be the best in the whole series but it’s going to be a lot more difficult than I had originally thought. I'm discovering that I’m more of a painter than a graphic artist.

Lunch was fun though because I really like this person and we had a lot to talk about besides the cover, but I’m also getting a bit of a panicky feeling about my ability to pull this off.

On a personal note, we’ve been having horrible wind storms; my house moans, makes loud cracking and popping noises, shakes, and generally freaks me out. After a night of being awoken continually by the wind, this morning I discovered my pipes had frozen overnight! After I *finally* got them thawed out I accidentally locked myself out of my house. It was *really* cold and I wasn’t properly dressed. I had to dig around in my truck for 20 minutes nearly getting frost bite, trying to find my spare key which I had hidden (very well apparently).

To add insult to injury, once I got to work I found out the coffee stand was closed for Spring Break! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Hey Dio, hasn't anyone ever told you that you're never supposed to say "things can't get any worse" because they *always* can!
:O
And hi Dave, I wonder what kind of connotation "elise in doublasland" has? Do I complain a lot?

Oh well...I did eventually get some java, I have NEEDS!
:satisfied:

One very good day and one very annoying day. Isn't that how life works sometimes. I'm the one that is still procastinating starting my own blog. The wind had been blowing here in Wasilla. My Lake looks like an ice skating rink. March winds times 100. I look foreward to your cover art. You have inspired me to paint nudes I'd like to show you.

Hi Judy, I'd love to see your nudes. I went to your website but I couldn't find them there. I also notice that you have an ebay store, has that been profitable for you?

How exciting!

E: Wow - makes me appreciate living here in Washington, and wonder what I miss about Kodiak!
But of course I still miss Alaska. Just can't imagine living there again...

Glad you got thawed out! We used to leave our heat-tape on the pipes plugged in till the end of May.

I know Jackie, and I'm here in temperate Juneau! Though actually, Douglas Island is famous for its Taku winds and harsher climate than the valley etc.

I don't use heat-tape, though I'm thinking now that I should install some this summer. My pipes froze last winter as well!

Coffee addict? Me too!A day without a coffee cannnot be a good day :D

I can not go even one day without coffee, and when I travel, I always take coffee supplies with me just in case they don't have them at the place I'm staying...how sad is that?

Also, I wanted to tell you that I've been offline at home mostly and using the computers at the public library across the street from me because the high winds here have made the power go out a few times and I don't have a surge protector for my computer.

Once the winds die down I'll be able to plug my computer in and we can try to talk over the computer again.
