07/17/2006: "Inside Passage"

Tonight I met up again with author Michael Modzelewski. He was in town for the afternoon and brought me a painting he bought earlier this summer so I could re-photograph it. Boys and girls...I'm hear to tell you that you absolutely *must* take really good, high resolution images of your paintings *before* you sell them! Seriously!

Well, he was a very good sport about it and even took me out for pizza afterwards. We talked about many intriguing things but I was especially entertained hearing him describe the process his third book is going through as it's being made into a film by Touchstone. Can you imagine having something of yours made into a real movie? Swoon... When you meet someone who is doing what you've always dreamt of doing, it makes the dream seem closer by proxy...more attainable somehow.

I was so gung ho for awhile when I was in "Hidden Alien Productions" and writing little screenplays and storyboarding like crazy and reading every book I could get my hands on about making movies...I hope that some day the old gang will get back together; we were starting to amass a nice set of equipment and specialties and several of our projects made it into small film festivals. Why can't I have 3 lives???

Anyway, I'm in the process of reading his first book Inside Passage: Living with Killer Whales, Bald Eagles, and Kwakiutl Indians which is very interesting and well-written...I give it two enthusiastic umbrellas up. I'm sure the movie will be great too; I'm just so excited for him!

Is this book about travelling?

Hi Kasia, Inside Passage a non-fiction book about the author's experiences living on a *really* remote island in the Inside Passage and all of his adventures there dealing with nature and isolation etc. I think you would *love* it Kasia!

His new one (that they're doing the movie of) is a little hard to describe, it's fiction but based partly on his experiences coming out of the wilderness and being named Cosmo Man of the Year...

Sounds really great. I'll look for them in Warsaw English bookshops.
