07/21/2006: "Friday tips for artists"

I meant to mention this awhile back, but Paul Dorrell, most excellent author of Living the Artist's Life usually posts a tip for artists each Friday on his blog.

Here is a link to the index of his Friday Tips for Artists section. Since he is a gallery owner he has a unique perspective on things that artists tend to struggle with (and I think it's pretty great of him to put this nice resource together) so enjoy!

On a personal note, I fought my hermit-ish inclinations last night and went out for a beer at the neighborhood pub with friends (which I‘ve been doing a lot lately) and ended up having a great time. In many ways it’s easier to be a home-body even though I know from experience I’ll have fun if I just can make it out the door. I’d probably have an easier time with that if wearing PJs in public was more acceptable!

And now the work day is over and I’m having some serious fantasies about retreating into my cozy little cave with the doors double bolted and the phone turned off. Just me, my two fluffy beasts, a fresh pallet of oil paints and a steaming mug of hot cocoa (it’s 48 degrees F or 8.9 degrees C here) and rainy. I could see my breath last night…global warming my ass!

So jelaous of the weather! It still so crazily hot here!

I understand the need to hide in the cave. I have that feeling very often too. I like going out, love my friends but I also love being on my own. And a big mug of hot cocoa is highly appreciated then. :)

Hi Kasia, I'm sorry that the weather in your part of Poland is still so hot...I know how you feel, when it gets hot here for awhile everyone starts complaining about how they miss the rain and fog.

I guess too much of any good thing starts to suck. I really wish I could send some or our rain and cool weather to you!

Some of the world's most
famous artists would meet
together at the local pubs
of Paris, sometimes for
talking shop, sometimes
for just relaxing some.
And look what happened to them!

(they died?)
NO! They got Famous!
ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES ELISE A DULL....er....GIRL!

(hey, just cause I been
hangin' with some
really great poets don't mean
everything's gonna rhyme, eh?)

Subject: A Very Sad Library Story

CRAWFORD, TEXAS

A tragic fire this morning destroyed the personal library of President George W. Bush.

Both of his books have been lost.

A presidential spokesman said the president was devastated, as he had almost finished coloring the
second one.

Saw ya popped by, but
just before I put in m'new post...scary stuff.
Not like the eyes and spiders, more to the tune of reality.

Have no idea
how it will be received.
That's what makes it
scary t'post.
Then, how it will be seen, that's what makes it
scary fer viewers.

But, the blog overlords
are screwin' around again...
can't even get to publish things yet,
hey won't even let me in.

Hi Berry, I'm not 100% sure what you're referring to...I'm assuming your new piece that you posted in your blog? Is it a photograph? I think it is funny/creepy...what was your intention when you did it?

Anyway, darn those nasty blog overlords...I don't use Blogger very much but I do know how to fix the problem of having your sidebar show up at the very bottom (if you're interested let me know, it's been awhile but I wrote down how to fix that for someone else and I'll look it up for you).
cheers!
;)
