10/10/2006: "A Heidi Ho Halloween"

I love the holidays. This time of year we're lined up for Halloween, then Thanksgiving, Christmas/Chanukah/Kwanzaa, and finally New Years Eve. I love decorating and baking and having little get-togethers with people.

I haven't purchased my tickets to Nebraska for (in my family) Christmas yet. I keep checking air fare for a better deal but right now the prices are so high. I think I waited too long, thinking I was going to be flying out of Seatac this year. Now I'm only finding horrible connections for over a thousand dollars.

I am getting ready for Halloween though. I have stuff to decorate the outside of my house and I love carving pumpkins. I won't be doing political pumpkins this year as they tend to get stolen...but I still want to do some. I love answering the door and handing out candy to all the neighborhood kids! I might have to miss that this year because I'm going to be face-painting for a kids' halloween party, but I'll leave some on the porch.

Below is the costume I bought for a Halloween party this year that falls the Sat. before the actual event (which is a Tuesday):

Don't worry, I won't be wearing it to work (or to the kids' party), for that I have an innocent little ladybug outfit.

The Heidi Ho costume is for a big party Maren invited me to. I feel a little strange because I don't know the people throwing the party, nor will I probably know any of the people attending it...but hey, it's a *costume* party! It's the one time of the year where you can be somebody else. Plus, Maren said last year there was dancing and a margarita machine...how can I go wrong!

E: Wow! I'm glad you're not wearing that costume to work...Yeah - I love Halloween. It really lets you feel childlike and have lots of fun to dress in costume. We used to have a bigger deal on Halloween here where I work, but management has put a big crimp in our style the last 2 years. I haven't even given a thought to costume this year...hmmm... :O

Hi Jackie...Halloween is huge on our campus, we have this big departmental costume and office decoration contest plus the library hosts a gross-out food buffet thing...with stuff like kitty litter cake and brain mold.

yummy

And hi Onahon!!!!
I wish so much that I could wear my costume to your house...with the shoes! I miss you...call me ok, or let me know when a good time for you and I'll call you (really, I promise Iwill).

And Kasia, isn't pumpkin carving fun? I have my own little kit and everything. Pumpkins are already in all the stores but I think it's still a little too early. They get nasty by Halloween if you carve them too soon.

do you put candles inside yours? Do kids come along late at night and smash them into the streets?

I make pumpkin pie when I can.

The party will be fun even if you don't know many folks. And your right, everyone will be in costume, its a party requirement. No exceptions! Plus, don't forget the getting ready party at my place with margaritas the old fashined-in-a-blender way! Whoo Hoo!!

There's something about being in a costume that makes me a lot less inhibited in a party environment so I'm really looking forward to it.

And yes, I plan to come to your place first, though I don't know how mcuh "getting ready" I'll need to do. I'll probably get dressed before I come over.

Whoo Hoo!

Did you get those black sclera contacts for Halloween last year? I think you should wear those with the Heidi-Ho outfit...

on Wednesday, October 11th, Elise said

Hi Holly,
What a great idea! I think the black sclera contacts (and possibly fangs) with just a touch of blood dribbling out the side of the blood red lips would be just the ticket.

Or, what do you think...maybe just the contacts? Less is more?

One year, a girl (about 12-ish) came trick-or-treating in the most beautiful Snow White costume-- it as really beatiful and she looked the part to a "T"-- except for the blood dripping from her eyes. It was magnificent!

I remember the Wednesday costume and you *did* look like Alanis Morrisette!

But no, the costume party isn't until oct. 28th, for Halloween.

Do the Swiss get into Halloween?
