Detail of painting I got the idea for this bird from the movie "Pollock" about the life of the famous abstract impressionist Jackson Pollock who had a pet raven. I was watching the DVD to get some inspiration and I was sketching while I worked. DVDs have a nice feature where you can zoom in on a particular frame I was so taken with the image of their bird standing on the back of his wife's (another abstract impressionist Lee Krasner) chair that I sketched it out and later added it to this painting of a woman sitting in a landscape. Although
not realistic representations, all of my landscapes are based on real
locations around my home on Douglas Island Alaska, or on the mainland
of Juneau where I work for the University of Alaska Southeast. |
