01/01/2004: "Make a mixed CD for me please!"

So, I sent out an email to my friends and family while I was in Nebraska (I just got home late last night) and I thought I would post it here in case anyone else wants to participate...

Hi everyone,
Some of you may remember a few years back when I sent out a bunch of disposable cameras to all my female friends around the country and over-seas and asked them to have someone take photos of them doing things they considered to be representative of their lives... I got back all of the cameras I sent out (around 15 I think) and they were amazing. I'm going to use them for a body of work about friendship and identity (which I've started but still haven't finished).

I guess I've always been interested in taking a peek into the lives of other people, especially friends, family, and other people who intrigue me. Getting those photos back was one way, a visual peeking, but music is another way. Our music reflects our current state of mind. Are you falling in or out of love? Are you lonely and depressed? Happy and full of energy? Every song we "choose" to listen to tells some aspect of ourselves at this particular moment in time.

Well, this is a long and insomniatic way of saying that I'd love it if everyone would make me a mixed CD of all their very favorite songs right now, not favorite songs from high school or last year, but right now, this week, this very moment. I don't care what kind of music it is, country, blue grass, pop, blues, a mix of all those things.... whatever. I just want to hear how you're feeling.

And I'll do the same! I'll send out my own mix to anyone who sends me one and that's a promise.

My address is
Elise Tomlinson
309 D Street
Douglas, AK 99824

And if you know anyone else that I don't know who might be interested, I wouldn't mind you forwarding this to them. I'm curious to see how many different mixed CDs I can get from people, and from what part of the US and anywhere else. I'd love to get some songs in other languages, for example, or possible hear some new bands that I'm not aware of yet.

Anyway, spread the love! and by the way, I hope you all had a very nice holiday break! I'm still in Nebraska at the moment but I'll be home in Alaska by tomorrow night.
Cheers,
Elise

mine should be in the mail tomorrow. It's burned and addressed in an envelope already.
