09/29/2004: "Email Mystery"

Well, I've checked and I don't have a virus after all. This is what I expected since I always use protection. I have to say though, my email has been acting very suspiciously as of late. For one thing, with some email messages, I open them, read them, and then the next time I go into my inbox, they've mysteriously disappeared and ones I'm 100% certain I didn't delete. No warning, no goodbye, just gone.

Also, I'm not getting some emails. For example, if you post a comment to this blog, the message is automatically sent to my inbox. However, there are new posts and no corresponding messages in my inbox. I'm at a loss. I had my "support@elisetomlinson.com" email forwarded to my Alaskan account, I'm not sure which account is causing the problem so for the time being, I'm going to stop forwarding. That may help. In the mean time, if you've sent me a message and think I'm being a stuck-up bitch for not getting back to you, chances are you're right...no, just kidding...probably I didn't get it. Many apostrophes''' in advance.

Did you get the email message I sent last night? I asked you if you could tell me if you buy prestreched canvases or if you strech them yourself. If you buy them, where from?

Hi Kelly,
I didn't get your message. hmmm. this is really frustrating. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but I was home sick yesterday. Anyway, if you do a search in the search box on the left for "canvas" it will pull up the entries I made about canvas, which goes into things in great detail. If you can't find it, write me here again and I'll email it to you.

E: I noticed starting about a month or so ago, that when I left comments to your Blog site, that they didn't register when I went back to the main page. In fact, even if there had been 2 comments previosly, after I submitted my comment, the number of comments read '0'. Hmmm...? But if I clicked on 'comments', my comment was really there. Lurking. Like a ghost. Or a blog reader who doesn't submit comments.

Well, I have no idea what's going on. Maybe if you hit the "refresh" button after going back to the main blog page it would register?

I'll look into it. I'm really bummed about the email thing. This comment, for example, should have ended up in my "inbox" but it didn't. I have been trying to communicate with a guy wanting to commission a painting and his messages weren't getting to me. i thought he had changed his mind!

Anyway, I'm going to talk to my ISP and see if we can figure it out. It sounds like a virus to me but according to my firewall, all is well.

Thanks for letting me know!

Me again, I just had happen what you described, only I got an internal server error when I tried to post a comment. Went back to the homepage of the blog and it said zero, but then showed 1 after I hit the refresh button.

I have just sent a mesage to Westhost to try and find out what's going on.
