02/10/2005: "The Writing on the Wall"

As anyone with long hair knows, after you wash it you have to squeeze out all the excess water, usually losing a couple strands to the cause. I normally put the strands on one of the shower walls where they turn into abstract drawings in the "blind contour" tradition. Today's hair abstraction looked *a lot* like an Egon Schiele drawing. The photo on the right is from my shower stall (lousy photo sorry) but I do believe there is a resemblance, no?

That how I look right before I get out of bed in the morning - except I'm usually wearing clothes.

Hair art - the newest form of installation art?! Might be something there...

There is a resemblance, yes. My hair is getting long, I have two teenage daughters both with long hair,.....result - v slow draining showers!! Now if I could persuade them to do a bit of shower wall art it wouldn't be me who has to clean the drain all the time - and we could do texture! Thanks Elise

You know Marja-Leena, I know you were probably joiking but I was thinking about that actually.

Not an installation, but that I could spray adhesive on a sheet of paper to transfer the “drawings”. I don’t manipulate them at all, I just stick the strands onto the wall and sometimes it looks like something and sometimes not, then once or twice a week I scrub down the wall and start over. Probably sounds strange but I see art everywhere…it’s inescapable.

And RR, if you get your daughters to make some, be sure to send a photo :P

LOL! Forget the inkblots, Elise has the Rorschach hair test!
(and that Schiele looks like a flippin' zombie)

I never thought of the connection between Schiele and zombies before but that explains why I'm so drawn to his work!
