05/29/2006: "Please come home safely!"

I wrote this long entry tonight about the incredible day I had, the interesting people I met, and about how happy I've been lately...then I watched the news late tonight (which I'd TIVO'ed) and realized that while I was out getting my bliss on, I'd completely forgotten that today was Memorial Day in the US. There was more violence in Iraq and Afghanistan where my sister's husband (and my good friend) George is stationed...I felt ashamed. Whatever I may feel about war and violence (and the US military's current role in the world) I am not naive about what I owe to those who have given their lives in the service of my country.
