03/20/2004: "Goodbye Material Girl"

I've made a decision to not buy anything new for the months of April and May. Just to see if I can do it. And I mean NOTHING (except food and utilities). Not a CD, DVD, or magazine...no new software...nothing. And if something breaks, I'll fix it myself. No trips to ebay, or amazon, no books, cold turkey. I want to see if I can disconnect from consumer culture for awhile and get back to basics. I'm going to have a garage sell to and get rid of some of my stuff that I don't really need. It's time to pare down.

I don't know if I can go two months without buying any art supplies, especially with my show fast approaching, but I'm going to try...
Wish me luck.

Wow - looks like you've analyzed your situation, found out the problem and are going to solve it. I have done nicely without ebay for like 6 months now. And I'm still alive! I found out I was spending way too much money on stuff I didn't need. As for art supplies I'd say if your self-imposed consumption aloofness keeps you from delivering what you promised, I'd give it a second thought. But then again I read you were almost done with two months to go...

You're right Chris, if I run out of white paint or something, I guess I'll have to break down. But no new brushes or anything I can't live without.

And as you stated, I am almost finished with enough pieces for the show but show or not, I need to keep painting. I won't just stop when I reach a magic number, ya know?
